GBV, in partnership with King Long, has delivered six fully electric buses for Kinetic’s airport transportation services brand SkyBus, expanding Melbourne’s sustainable airport transport options and marking a major step toward a zero-emission future.
The buses will be utilised on SkyBus’ new Sunshine Express route, which commenced operations this month, offering direct – and 100% electric – travel from Sunshine Station to the airport.
The route joins SkyBus’ existing City Express and Peninsula Express services, and the Eastern Express which commenced operations in August 2025, expanding zero-emission travel options for passengers in Melbourne
The new 37-seat (+ 27 standing pax) electric fleet represents a significant step forward in reducing noise pollution and carbon emissions, boasting a range of approximately 400 km per charge.
These buses deliver a quieter, smoother ride while contributing to cleaner air and more sustainable urban environments.
This initiative supports Australia and New Zealand’s shared sustainability targets, including commitments toward net-zero emissions by 2050 and the adoption of zero-emission public transport fleets.
“This collaboration marks a significant milestone for GBV as we continue to lead the transition to zero-emission transport,” said Brad Glosson, CEO at GBV. “Together with King Long and SkyBus, we are redefining passenger transport with cleaner, quieter and more efficient vehicles.”
SkyBus General Manager Audrey Speziale said:
“SkyBus is an iconic Melbourne service, and we’re excited to not only be connecting more Melbourne communities with direct public transport to Melbourne Airport, but also to be investing in the electrification of the SkyBus fleet.
“We’re proud to have launched a fully electric Sunshine Express service this month, whilst the Eastern Express will transition to fully electric in 2026.
“It’s another way we’re innovating to improve the experience for passengers, offering a clean and green welcome into Melbourne.”
GBV will continue to support SkyBus as it works toward its 2031 commitment of operating an entirely electric fleet in Melbourne.
